8th Continent and WomenHeart. Partners in the fight against heart
disease.
Because the soy protein in soymilk can help fight heart disease, the #1 killer of
American women, 8th Continent has partnered with The Heart Truth Campaign
and WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease.
WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease is a national patient
advocacy organization. It provides support, information, and advocacy for the 8
million women in the U.S. living with heart disease. WomenHeart’s mission is to
improve their quality of life and healthcare, and to advocate on their behalf. A story from the heart.
- In November 2005, 8th Continent soymilk launched Send the Dress
for Heart Health. Since the beginning of this program, 8th Continent donated over
$350,000 to WomenHeart to help increase awareness of heart disease among women.
- In October 2006, 8th Continent soymilk sponsored WomenHeart's
2006 Science and Leadership Symposium for the third year in a row. The symposium
at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN trained 60 women living with heart disease to be
spokeswomen in educating their communities across the country on heart disease risk,
diagnosis and treatment, as well as simple prevention steps. Over 310 women have
been trained to date with 60 more slated to receive training in the fall of 2007.
